On the internationally famous table (again!) the barrel, the heart of the matter. Ready for the inlet to be fitted for checking, and needs placement on to the crankcases with the exhaust fitting and brackets in mind, mainly as there is need for the brackets to be brazed into position on the frame. There is still some machining to do on the inlet side of the barrel before completion. Also the throttle cable for mods and fitting to the bike, oops, l fitted it! as in last pic in sequence. Take note the barrel is still not finished internally, so it is just a mock up to check out the inlet problems. So what do I find? The carb fouls the crankcase so an adapter plate is being made up to tweak the carb over to the left side of the bike to give some clearance....... Ah well, nothing runs smooth.......

For some light relief from the pain of engine building... A whole Cadwell grid of 2003 formula bantams, front to back, 120 Steve Woods, 60 Andy Moulden, 218 me! on Andy's spare long stroke bike, alongside me yellow leathers, Ian Scutt, 260 Peter Dunne, at back obscured on green bantam Philip Betty. Next grid pic, me on the long stroke, in the background and to the left of picture, the legs of Mike Powell and Robbie Brown! (no relative). Picture to right shows me and Ian Scutt dicing through the hairpin.

To left, me on Mansfield corner, middle pic another view of me and Ian having a good go at it! this was 4th of October meeting, last of the year. I have to thank Andy for the ride, and everyone else in the club including Mike Powell, Pete Tibbetts, and Jimmy for the assistance and support to this date. Just watch out for me next year!! Now onto more of my engine pictures.

A triple sequence that shows the carb fitting and the way I have had to off-set it to the left of the bike to miss the frame. There is also a fuel filter without the pipe clips (as yet), I think I will look for something to hold it neatly and firmly in position.... The carb is a 34mm, and on loan from Pete Tibbitts, (ta mate!). That will be replaced for something slightly larger in due course, note it has a power jet fitted but not yet piped up. The inlet assembly still could do with a lick of paint though..

moving along quickly!

More views! the enormous stopping power of a TZR 250 front disc and MB50 honda caliper, which has now been cleaned up checked out, and wired up. Belter of a brake! Engine timing side in view, I have the flywheel off to glue the woodruff key in place with thread-lock. Some cranks don't even use a key... but I prefer the repeatability of the flywheel position. The carb hangs in position whilst the barrel is away for work to be done that I can not do! To right, the top end of the stopping department shows the master cylinder and all the cable runs are nice and neat.

When the barrel returns the top end will just have to get fitted so I can get the engine running!
